Five feels like such a milestone. ✨ Turning 5 is when your little one seems to suddenly grow into a big kid, with stronger opinions, unique quirks, and a sense of wonder that deserves celebrating in the most magical way. My beautiful baby (but actually not a baby) Lola is about to turn 5 and what a dream come true she is. She is kind and thoughtful and cheeky and clever and has so much sparkle in her soul.

For her 5th birthday that is coming up, that means rainbows, sparkles, mermaids, unicorns, and anything that feels a little bit extra. I wanted her birthday to feel truly special, so I’ve pulled together some magical gift ideas that are perfect for a girl who loves creativity, imagination, and a lot of sparkle in her world.

✨ Lola is an extroverted little performer who loves animals, unicorns, mermaids, fairies and everything mystical and magical (including Benson Boone). She has lit up my world for the past 5 years, taught me more about myself than I could ever imagine and as well as celebrating her birthday, I feel like this is a thank you to her for the best 5 years of my life!

While we want to spoil her, she won't be getting everything on this list, but this is our list of top 5th birthday gift ideas and some of what her birthday gifts will look like. Note: This post includes affiliate links. [#CommissionsEarned] No extra cost to you!

1. A Gymnastics Bar – for the little acrobat

Our Miss 5 loves gymnastics! If your child is constantly flipping, climbing, or cartwheeling across the living room, a gymnastics bar is the ultimate birthday surprise. It’s a brilliant way for kids to burn energy, build confidence, and work on their balance and strength. Many versions are height-adjustable and can be folded away when not in use.

Our only particular thing to look out for was stability bars for safety

2. A Magical Potions Kit – for endless imaginative play

There’s something truly enchanting about letting kids “brew” their own magical potions. These kits usually come with sparkly powders, dried flowers, biodegradable glitter, and mixing tools. They’re great for sensory play and encourage storytelling (“this potion makes you fly like a unicorn” 🦄).

Tip: Pair this with a pretty notebook where they can write down their “recipes.”

3. Fairy Garden Jewels & Accessories – for outdoor sparkle

A fairy garden is such a magical way to connect kids with nature. Adding jewels, mini unicorn figurines, fairy doors, and tiny houses lets them create their very own enchanted world. It’s a gift that keeps growing as they add to it over time.

Lola has a beautiful fairy garden already set up but she loves nothing more than adding new pieces and characters to her story. See below some amazing sets for bringing your fairy garden to life

Top it off with some solar mushrooms for even more excitment when the sun goes down

4. Lego & Duplo – creative fun that lasts

You can’t go wrong with Lego or Duplo for a 5th birthday. For younger builders, Duplo sets with animals, unicorns, or princess castles are perfect. For kids ready for smaller pieces, Lego Friends and Lego Disney Princess sets are wonderful options. These sets are not only fun but also fantastic for problem-solving, creativity, and independent play. It also lasts a life time and will come back out as the kids 'current favourite' toy time and again.

The best Lego for our 5 year old was:

5. Craft Kits & Art Supplies for the budding artist

From bead-making kits to sparkly sticker books, to mermaid sequin art, craft kits are a go-to for creative kids. At this age, they love creating something “all by themselves,” and it’s the perfect quiet activity when you need a little calm in the house or a beautiful way to spend some bonding time, creating together.

Lola is very creative and artsy, she will sit and colour for hours.

6. Dress-Ups & Accessories – for princess transformations

No magical birthday would be complete without dress-ups. Think glittery princess dresses, mermaid tails, unicorn headbands, or fairy wings. The beauty of dress-ups is that they spark role play, confidence, and hours of fun.

We are a house of girls (and Dad) and our dress up rack is what childhood dreams are made of. The forever favorites are

7. Books Full of Magic & Adventure – stories to treasure

Books make beautiful birthday presents that last well beyond the day. Some great themes for a 5-year-old include unicorn adventures, mermaid tales, fairy stories, or empowering picture books about brave little girls. Pair the book with a cozy reading corner and you’ve created a gift that’s magical in itself.

Unicorn (obviously Thelma above all else) but then: https://amzn.to/4fSaEEq

8. Outdoor Fun – big magic in the backyard

Simple gifts can sometimes bring the biggest smiles. Bubble machines, rainbow kites, butterfly garden kits, or even a sparkly skipping rope can provide hours of outdoor fun. These gifts are budget-friendly and perfect for balancing out the “big ticket” presents.

9. The Pinnacle Gift: A Russian Blue Cat 🐾

For us, the most magical part of Lola’s 5th birthday will be welcoming a new family member, a Russian Blue cat. After researching low-allergenic, low-shedding, and kid-friendly breeds, we knew this was the perfect match.

Lola has been an animal lover from the day she was born. When she grows up she wants to be a vet and work in a wildlife sanctuary. She has begged for an animal for years which we have not been able to accommodate due to work hours and living arrangements...but the time has come and I feel like it will be on my top 5 most favourite moments list.

Stay tuned for a pet friendly post when we have tried and tested all things cat.

Five Is Magical ✨

Lola is magical. I have loved every age along the way but this feels like such a milestone. It’s the perfect mix of magic, curiosity, and independence, the blurred line between a small child and a big kid. Whether it’s a big surprise like a gymnastics bar or a pet, or smaller gifts like craft kits and fairy garden treasures, the key is choosing presents that celebrate who your child is becoming.

For Lola, that means unicorns, mermaids, rainbows, and plenty of sparkle. This year, we’ve chosen gifts that are fun, imaginative, and full of magic and I can’t wait to see her face light up when she opens them.

I am so proud of the little girl that I grew and that we have raised. She makes my heart explode every day with her kindness, her passion for life, her empathy. I am excited and sad at the same time. Sad to say goodbye to 4, an age where she really came into herself and her gorgeous, outgoing, kind personality and so excited to continue to watch this dream girl of ours blossom.

Here is to a magical, mermaid, unicorn, fairy, sparkle princess year for Miss 5.

Love S xx
